How to configure DICOM Q/R Back Association

Procedure

To enable successful DICOM Q/R associations between your Server and the target PACS system, the following items must be configured.

  1. Ensure the PACS system's AE Title, IP Address (or hostname) and port are correctly entered into the Storage SCP address in the dicom-plugin.properties file.

  2. Ensure your Server's AE Title, IP Address (or hostname) and port are configured on the PACS system as an authorized machine. These items should match what is configured for the Storage SCU address in the dicom-plugin.properties file.

    Note: Having the IP Address configured as 0.0.0.0 is acceptable.

    ### Dicom Q/R config

    # The address of the Storage SCP in the form of <ae-title>@<host>:<port>
    # The plugin will issue C-FIND and C-MOVE requests to this address.
    dicomqr.query.address=ResolutionMD@localhost:11112

    # The address of the Storage SCU in the form of <ae-title>@<host>:<port>
    # This is the address that the plugin will listen for storage requests resulting from
    # a C-MOVE.
    dicomqr.storage.address=PureWeb@0.0.0.0:11113

Common Problems

Look out for these common problems when configuring DICOM Q/R:

  • Spelling and Capitalization of AE Titles
  • Invalid AE Titles. Avoid the use of non-alphanumeric characters.
  • dicom-plugin.properties file correct, but no Back Association configured on the PACS
  • Back Associations using unresolvable hostname
  • Back Associations which as properly configured, but not ENABLED.
  • Duplicate back association names on multiple PACS.  This will result in no thumbnails being load and failure to load on the imageviewer.
